Google’s Cr-48 Chrome Laptop is Landing in…

Tech geeks unite! Google’s first laptop — the Cr-48 Chrome is scheduled for release in mid-2011. While howiGit doesn’t tend to write about technology, he does work with a bunch of techies and this is something vastly different. It’s the first laptop to run on a browser-based operating system — Google Chrome — which will enable it to boot in 10 seconds and be super stable.

I wonder what Steve Jobs thinks about all of this…

Here’s what Google is saying about it.

And here are some pictures and initial impressions.

Tiger, Ke$ha, and Kanye? You Gotta Know…

Ke$ha "Cannibal"

Tiger Woods and pop star Ke$ha are now dating. Well, not really. Not at all in fact. But this morning I have three random tidbits of information that any howiGit reader must know, and Tiger and Ke$ha are involved.

1) Tiger Woods is no longer the #1 golfer in the world. After holding that position for the past 5 years, Tiger’s lack of winning in 2010 has finally caught up to him. So Phil is the new #1 right? Wrong. Lee Westwood is the new world #1, ladies and gentlemen, followed by Tiger at #2, Martin Kaymer at #3, and Phil at #4. Surprised? Who wouldn’t be. Both Tiger and Lee Westwood are playing the WGC-HSBC Championship in China this week. Through two rounds Westwood is in 2nd place at -8, with Tiger in 9th place at -4. The good news is the World Golf Ranking are currently so close we could be seeing the number #1 position flip-flop from week to week.

2) Ke$ha’s new CD entitled Cannibal is to be released on November 22. I know what I want in my stocking this year! The album included her upcoming song, “Grow a Pair.” I told you she was perfect for Tiger.

3) Kanye West is also slated to release his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, on November 22. Will he be able to outsell Ke$ha’s Cannibal?

howiGit Gets Political — Where Are You Team America?

Barack Obama

Let me start by saying that I hate getting political, especially on this blog, so I apologize. I promise it won’t happen very often. I’d also like to state for the record that I am not a Republican, not a Democrat, and not a member of the Tea Party. I am a founding member of the “G” party, of which only myself and Snoop Dogg are members. Now that we’ve cleared that up, some minor ranting…..

I’m not trying to bash Democrats or Republicans. But it seems very apparent to me that politics in the US has been turned into something of a Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. In other words, we are not all trying to play for the same team here. I watched yesterday as many of my Republican friends celebrated the Republican party winning back the majority of the seats in the House of Representatives. They grumbled about Obama and saw yesterday as a huge victory. Yes, it was a huge victory for Republicans — but it was a huge loss for all Americans, which is what really matters. With a Democratic President and a Republican house, it will simply be that much more difficult to get anything done. Whether you like Obama’s agenda or not, getting anything done to appease either party just got a hell of a lot harder. In other words, we took a giant step backwards from actually seeing any “change,” no matter what that change might be. We handcuffed ourselves as a country yesterday, and now nobody is the winner. Not the Democrats, not the Republicans — Americans became the losers — and likely will be for the next two years.

I thought that President Obama made a good point when called out by Jon Stewart last week — his campaign promised change for America, not change for America in 18 months. And just as the economy has started to grow again, it is our own people and our own need for instant gratification that has handcuffed us. Trust me, I’m not saying that if you are Republican you should have voted Democrat or vice versa in order to keep Congress as it has been. I’m saying that you shouldn’t be celebrating a victory where America is essentially the loser for the next two years. I’ve noticed that the same people who tend to do this are also the ones who tell Americans not to vote because they are “uninformed.” Yet the people who say this all consider themselves to be very much “informed.” I hate to break it to you, but chances are pretty damn good that you have no idea what you’re talking about either. The issues that face us today are incredibly complex, as made evident by the difficulty that we’ve had fixing them. So please stop telling me you are informed. You’re no expert either.

All I’m asking is that next time you go to the polls, consider what’s best for the USA — not your favorite political party. That’s just how I G it.

Boston, New York, Philadelphia — Which City is Smartest?

Boston -- the Smartest City

At long last, the proof I’ve been long awaiting showed up at my doorstep. After months of listening to New Yorkers describe Eli Manning as an “Elite” quarterback and Lakers fans argue that Kobe Bryant would beat Michael Jordan one on one, I am now assured that these remarks were nim-witted at best. Enter, the Daily Beast’s list of America’s Smartest Cities. The list takes into account things like bachelor’s degrees, graduate degrees, and adult non-fiction reading levels.

Sitting at the top of the list? howiGit’s home, Boston, Massachusetts. My college town, Philadelphia (shout out to St. Joe’s) came in at #14, with New York finishing #16. Check out the list. It proves that I’m never wrong.

On a side note, how bad are the Dallas Cowboys? Bad enough that they managed to make Eli Manning look good. With the loss of  Tony Romo, I think it’s fair to say they are all done.

Sally Davies’ Happy Meal Project — McDonald’s Nightmare

Sally Davies Happy Meal Project

An artist named Sally Davies has embarked on a long and arduous adventure, all in the name of art. Davies purchased a McDonald’s Happy Meal on April 10, 2010, and has left the contents of the meal out on her counter ever since. The project, now over 180 days old, is something of a nightmare for McDonald’s — the food has shown almost no sign of molding or decay over a period of nearly half a year. And we put this stuff inside our bodies?

McDonald’s has responded by saying that the meal must have been frozen or tampered with. Davies replied by inviting McDonald’s executives to her house, in a statement saying “Bite me.” Pretty wild stuff.

You Should Know About — KiwiBerry Passion Poppers

KiwiBerry Passion Poppers

You are likely thinking, “What kind of fruit-loop writes this blog? What the hell is a passion popper kiwiberry?” And your questions would be warranted. I was just introduced to these beauties this week.

A passion popper kiwiberry is essentially a kiwi fruit that comes in a grape-like size. No pealing is involved — they are highly bite-sized and immediately popable, in addition to being nutrient packed and absolutely delicious. You can find more information on passion popper kiwiberries here. They can be a bit hard to find, but I highly recommend you pick some up, if you have the means.
